Lettuces originated in the Mediterranean basin, where traces of growing them have been found as far back as 4500 B.C. They were brought to France during the course of the 14th century.
Many varieties have come into being since then: frisée, escarole, garden lettuce, batavia, oak leaf, lamb’s lettuce, iceberg and more. Whether you prefer your lettuce bitter, sharp, soft or crunchy, you’ll always find a lettuce to your taste.
Due to their nutritional, dietary and taste properties, lettuces are now to be found on everybody’s table and can be enjoyed all year round.
